Patient safety and prescribing reports for GPs

New NHS England guidance for medication review in primary care recommends patient safety and prescribing reports developed by CPRD and the Royal College of GPs (RCGP).

These confidential and bespoke prescribing reports for individual GP practices are available for free for practices contributing to CPRD.

The Structured medication reviews and medicines optimisation guidance sets out how the reports can support audit, identification and analysis of patients for structured medication reviews (SMRs).

The reports provide a pseudonymised list of patients at the practice so that GPs can re-identify and review their care. Some reports also show the practice’s prescription rate benchmarked against other participating GP practices. Each report covers a selection of safety indicators and can be used towards QoF and annual appraisals.
