Scientific member vacancies

We are seeking scientific and clinical experts to join the Expert Review Committees (ERCs) that are responsible for reviewing research proposals seeking access to CPRD data.

CPRD data are used by medicines regulators such as the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), by government organisations including Public Health England, and by academic researchers, the NHS and pharmaceutical companies. CPRD data can only be used by bona fide researchers in these organisations for public health research.

For more than 30 years, CPRD data have supported vital research into health care delivery, safety and effectiveness of medicines and risk factors for disease. More than 2,700 medical and public health research studies have been published using CPRD data, which have informed drug safety guidance and best clinical practice.

Access to CPRD data is subject to protocol approval via CPRD’s Research Data Governance (RDG) Process.

Role

The role of scientific members is to provide expert clinical and scientific advice to CPRD on individual applications requesting access to CPRD data for public health research purposes, including consideration of ethical and reputational issues.

We are looking for scientific and clinical experts who have experience of either using electronic health record (EHR) systems and/or conducting research using such data, and are capable of providing reviews on observational research applications related to a range of research methodologies and disease or therapeutic areas, not just their own areas of specialism.

Expertise is sought in the following broad subject areas, as related to public health research:

  • Statistics and epidemiology
  • Data science, modelling, and machine learning
  • Clinical practice - primary care and other specialties
  • Public health policy and economics research, especially health outcomes evaluation research

The deadline for applications is midday on Friday 7 May 2021.

If you have any questions about these roles please contact the Research Data Governance secretariat at rdg@cprd.com.
